Girls and Women in Technology Conference to Take Place at El Camino College Compton Center

El Camino College Compton Center has scheduled a free “Girls and Women in Technology Conference” from 8:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on April 24, 2015. Female students and members of the community who are interested in exploring non-traditional careers are invited to attend. Registration, a welcome address and panel discussion will kick-off the conference at 8:30 a.m. in the Gymnasium, followed by a variety of workshops conducted in the Vocational Technology Building. ECC Compton Center is located at 1111 E. Artesia Boulevard, Compton, CA 90221.

The technology conference is designed to introduce women and girls to educational paths and jobs in non-traditional careers that offer high pay, great benefits and job security. ECC Compton Center’s Division 2 Career and Technical Education (CTE) department faculty along with community agencies will conduct the workshops. A job and resource fair is also on the day’s agenda.

The workshops will cover information on a variety of career fields. These “hands-on” interactive workshops offer a look into career opportunities in areas such as welding; business; computer technology; heating, ventilation and air conditioning; fashion; commercial music; EMT/fire technology; aerospace fastener manufacturing; machining; and robotics, among others. Information on ECC Compton Center CTE programs, registered apprenticeships, and free job training opportunities will also be provided.

The Girls and Women in Technology Conference sponsors include: ECC Compton Center’s Division 2 CTE Department; Career Pathways; Career Advancement Academy; Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Icebreakers Club; Women in Non-Traditional Employment Roles (WINTER); R.E. Michel Company; and Women in Technology (WIT).
